PHYWE Determination of the adiabatic index of gases using the Flammersfeld oscillator

Principle: A mass oscillates in a volume of gas contained in a precision glass tube. The oscillations are maintained by returning the outgoing gas back into the system. The specific heat ratio of different gases is determined from the oscillation period. Advantages: Suitable for many different gases: Compact, easily transportable setup. Objectives: Determine the specific heat ratio of nitrogen and carbon dioxide in air from the oscillation period T of a mass m in a volume V of gas.
