Description
The Robots Launcher Expansion Kit (am-5659) is a great way to upgrade your robot by adding launchers. Designed as a teaching tool for understanding projectile dynamics, the kit allows you to build one of three different launchers at once.
Available Build Concepts:
- Catapult: Uses spring force and a cam mechanism to cock and release a lever quickly. Features highly repeatable firing patterns and compatibility with a variety of projectile types.
- Hooded Flywheel: Uses the rotational energy of a wheel to propel an object along a curved hood. Often imparts spin to the projectile, which affects its trajectory.
- Double Axle Flywheel: Uses a pair of wheels that rotate in opposite directions. Synchronized rotation ensures a straight, spin-free flight, while the difference in speed allows for spin.
This kit encourages experimentation: try replacing the flexible wheels (Compliant) with weighted ones (Stealth), or adjusting the angles and tension to find the perfect launch configuration.
Note to FTC teams: These mechanisms are basic examples. When using them in competition, be sure to ensure compliance with safety rules R301 and R303 (Competition Manual).
